{"id":4853,"date":"2016-06-26T10:57:12","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T07:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tourism.plus4d.com\/2016\/06\/26\/uk-travel-industry-reacts-to-brexit\/"},"modified":"2016-06-26T10:57:12","modified_gmt":"2016-06-26T07:57:12","slug":"uk-travel-industry-reacts-to-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tourismworld-seyaha.com\/?p=4853","title":{"rendered":"UK travel industry reacts to Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">WTTEN-TDM-The UK travel trade\u2019s two main industry bodies, ABTA and UKinbound, have warned of turbulent times ahead following the country\u2019s decision to abandon the European Union.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the immediate aftermath of the referendum vote this morning, UKinbound CEO Deirdre Wells warned of \u201cfar-reaching consequences\u201d for its 370 business members.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cUKinbound feels the decision to leave the EU is disappointing,\u201d she said.&nbsp;\u201cHowever, we have proved time and again that we are a resilient industry and the Government must now work hard to secure a deal which supports our vibrant industry, which relies on the European Union for two-thirds of its business.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe priority must now be to ensure that our members have the best possible environment in which to grow their business and to support them in welcoming visitors from all corners of the globe.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In a statement issued this morning, ABTA said while the UK trade was entering a \u201cperiod of uncertainty\u201d, in regulatory terms there will not be any immediate changes.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cOnce the UK formally notifies the EU of its intention to leave, the remaining Member States will have up to two years to offer the UK a deal for a future trading relationship. This period can also be extended if all parties agree. Until this process is resolved, everything will remain as it is now.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">ABTA reiterated that its role was to help keep the industry informed, to help the travelling public to remain confident in travelling, and to help Government to understand and prioritise those matters that are important to \u201cour Members and our industry\u201d.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif; font-size: 0.938em; line-height: 1.5; padding-left: 1.25em; padding-right: 1.25em; color: #222222;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cABTA will be working proactively with Government to raise awareness of the priorities for travel businesses, and UK travellers, as they negotiate a future trading relationship.&nbsp;We started this process some months ago, with a programme of engagement with \u2018leave\u2019 campaigners in Westminster, and we have&nbsp;prepared a detailed list of policy and regulatory priorities that we will be discussing with leading policymakers in the coming weeks.
