The European Union celebrates “Europe Days”
in four Cities around Jordan
The annual “Europe Day” is celebrated around the world on 9th May to commemorate the day when the idea of the European Union was for the first time put forward in 1950. The EU countries still struggling then after the devastation of the World War II decided to unite in an effort to prevent any future military conflicts and to join efforts towards a shared prosperity. After over 50 years of integration and close cooperation the European Union is made up today of 28 Member States.
In 2015 the European Union has launched across the globe the European Year for Development to highlight its commitment to strengthening partnership and supporting socio-economic development of partner countries. Together, the European Union and its Member States are the world’s largest aid donor.
The celebration in Jordan highlights the mutual partnership between Jordan and the EU. The focal sectors of development cooperation with Jordan are the rule of law for enhanced public service delivery, private sector development and employment, and renewable energy and energy efficiency.
“This year we are reaching out with our Europe Day events, to wider and more diverse public around the country, to demonstrate how important all of Jordan is to the European Union and to allow us to express our appreciation for Jordan’s communities, in particular its young people” said Joanna Wronecka, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
In order to celebrate together the European Union Delegation in Jordan invites the public to events in four different cities: 1st May in Irbid, Sahet Al Nabulsi, 8th May in Amman, the Hashemite Plaza Down Town, 15th May in in Karak, Sahet Al Qalaa and on the 22nd May in Zarqa, the Urban Village. The time of those public events is the same in each location from 4 to 8 pm.
Families and children will enjoy a series of fun games that inspire creativity among young people while allowing them to learn about the European Union and its work in Jordan. These interactive activities will include drawing, music, clay-making, puppet show, fashion and more. The audience will also enjoy family-oriented live performances from different EU countries complemented by performances of local talent from each city.
On the evening of 9th May, festivities will continue in Amman with a performance of The Balkan Project a collaboration between Jordanian performers and members of the world-renowned group of musicians from Europe called ‘Paprika’. The concert will take place at the Hashemite Plaza Down Town from 8 to 9:30 pm.
The events are funded by European Union and implemented by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in Jordan. The celebrations in Amman are conducted under the patronage of H.E. Akel Baltaji, Mayor of Amman
يتم الاحتفال بمناسبة “يوم أوروبا” في جميع أنحاء العالم يوم التاسع من أيار لإحياء ذكرى اليوم الذي طرحت فيه فكرة الاتحاد الأوروبي للمرة الأولى عام 1950. حيث قررت دول الاتحاد الأوروبي، التي كانت لم تزل تكافح بعد الدمار الذي خلفته الحرب العالمية الثانية، أن تتحد في محاولة لوقف أي صراعات عسكرية قد تحدث في المستقبل، وأن يضافروا الجهود الرامية إلى تحقيق الرخاء المشترك. وبعد أكثر من 50 عاماً من التكامل والتعاون الوثيق، يتكون الاتحاد الأوروبي اليوم من 28 دولة عضو.
في عام 2015، أطلق الاتحاد الأوروبي في جميع أنحاء العالم “العام الأوروبي للتنمية” من أجل التسليط الضوء على التزامه في تعزيز الشراكة ودعم التنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية في البلدان الشريكة. ومعاً، أصبح الاتحاد الأوروبي والدول الأعضاء فيه أكبر مانح للمساعدات في العالم.
إن الاحتفال الذي سيقام في الأردن يسلط الضوء على الشراكة المتبادلة بين المملكة والاتحاد الأوروبي. وتتمركز قطاعات التعاون الإنمائي مع الأردن حول سيادة القانون بهدف تعزيز تقديم الخدمات العامة، ويضاف إليها مجالات تنمية القطاع الخاص والتشغيل، والطاقة المتجددة وكفاءتها.
“إننا في هذا العام نتواصل من خلال فعاليات يوم أوروبا مع الجمهور على نطاق أوسع وأكثر تنوعاً في جميع أنحاء المملكة، لكي نظهر مدى الأهمية التي يوكلها الاتحاد الأوروبي للأردن بكافة مناطقه. واسمحوا لنا أن نعرب عن تقديرنا للمجتمعات الأردنية، لا سيما الشباب،” تقول السيدة يؤانا فرونيتسكا، سفير الاتحاد الأوروبي لدى المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية.
تدعو بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي في الأردن عامة الناس للانضمام إلى الفعاليات التي ستقام في أربع مدن مختلفة: في 1 أيار في مدينة إربد، ساحة النابلسي؛ وفي 8 أيار في عمان، الساحة الهاشمية، وسط البلد؛ وفي 15 أيار في الكرك، ساحة القلعة؛ وفي 22 أيار في الزرقاء، القرية الحضرية. وستبدأ جميع الفعاليات في الوقت نفسه في كل من المواقع المذكورة، وذلك من الساعة 4 بعد الظهر حتى 8 مساءاً.
ستستمتع العائلات والأطفال بسلسلة من الألعاب الترفيهية التي تلهم الإبداع لدى الشباب، وتعرفهم في نفس الوقت على المزيد من المعلومات عن الاتحاد الأوروبي ونشاطاته في الأردن. ستشمل هذه الأنشطة التفاعلية: الرسم، والموسيقى، وصنع الأشكال من الصلصال، ومسرح للعرائس، والأزياء، وغيرها الكثير. كما سيقضي الجمهور في العروض الحية الموجهة للأسرة وقتاً ممتعاً تقدمها فرق مختلفة من دول الاتحاد الأوروبي وستقام أيضاً فعاليات محلية من كل مدينة.
وفي مساء 9 أيار، ستستمر الاحتفالات في عمان مع فعاليات فرقة “مشروع البلقان”، وفنانين أردنيين، وفرقة من الموسيقيين ذات شهرة عالمياً تدعى “بابريكا”. وسيجري الاحتفال في الساحة الهاشمية وسط البلد من الساعة 8 إلى 9:30 مساء.
